Lydia Paulos

Berlin-based Cellist & Music Collaborator

Lydia Paulos is a Berlin-based cellist. She performs across a wide spectrum of genres, from folk and indie to punk and experimental film scoring. She has toured with indie artist Margo Ross, co-creating string arrangements for her album Prairie Life, and with LA songwriter Daisy Abrams, for whom she has recorded string arrangements as well. She’s immersed in the Berlin singer-songwriter scene, and has several recent projects, including the band Alice Hills and the Velvet Shadows, and various recording sessions at The Famous Gold Watch. Lydia’s broad musical range has led her to perform with DJ KYGO, punk band Pom Pom Squad, pop singer Tiger Darrow, and she can be heard on the soundtrack for the Netflix horror film Cam (2018).

Her non-theater recordings include Margo Ross’s Prairie Life, Pom Pom Squad’s Death of a Cheerleader, Jess Christiana’s Time Doesn’t Heal (The Wound), Daisy Abrams’s Kaleidoscope, Volena’s upcoming single (Renovations), and numerous other releases by emerging artists.

A recent transplant from New York, Lydia plays regularly for theater productions and cabarets. Her extensive theater credits include US National Tours of Dear Evan Hansen, South Pacific, and An American In Paris, as well as several off-Broadway credits, including Alice By Heart at MCC Theater, Baby with Out of the Box Theatrics. She’s played countless performances at The Green Room 42 and 54 Below in Manhattan. Known for her adaptability and rich sound, Lydia frequently collaborates with composers on new shows and contributes to theater-related recordings. Her work can be heard on "Losing My Mind: A Sondheim Disco Fever Dream” and Blake Allen’s "An Evening With: Volume 1.”

​Classically trained, Lydia is the current principal cellist of the Neues Kammerorchester Berlin. She performed as a duo with pianist Luka Marinkovic for Holland America cruise line concerts, and has an ongoing folk/classical duo with violinist Emma Allingham. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from New York University, where she studied under Patrick Jee, associate principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic.
